I remember well starting my Truth Matters Substack about 18 months ago and commentating on the state of US politics. Over that time, I’ve produced over 500 posts and gathered 103,000 truth seekers on my journey.
This represents a fresh start to attract a new audience on my side of the Atlantic to help in the fight to save the soul of another nation. A country that it seems has fallen under the spell of right-wing fear, division, and the scapegoating of poor people and those caught in possession of a non-white face. I have long had an interest in politics on both sides of the pond, but since 2020 I have focussed my attention on US politics. I did this because I felt it was the source of the threat under Trumple Thinskin. I thought it better to help fight the fire at its source, hence the birth of the Truth Matters brand. It seems however, there is no firebreak anymore and the ideological dogma eating America alive has metastasised and has arrived on British shores. It didn’t arrive in a dinghy. Instead it arrived with five million pounds and a bucket full of racist hatred. Enter stage right, ‘man of the people’ and Trump mini me Nigel Farage.
What many might not understand given this is my debut to UK political commentary is that I have just spent the best part of six years commentating from the lab this virus has escaped from and I’ve watched it grow and feed on the very soul of a nation the world once looked up to and I’ll be damned if I’m going to let another monster do to us, what Trump has done to American society. So, here I am reporting for duty in defence of the homeland.
One thing you’ll soon get to know about me is that I tell it as it is without fear or favour, that’s what got me over 100,000 subscribers in my other publication. At heart I’m a Labour supporter, always have been, but I fear in 2024, when they had the opportunity just as they had in 1997 to change things, sadly, the Great British public were served up a stillborn opportunity for change.
In the crazy upside down world we are being forced to inhabit, I genuinely believe that Andy Burnham has an opportunity to make a difference and that’s why I’m here. Carole Cadwalladr and I share a common view of the direction of travel and I made a short film about it:
Not only do I write on Substack and X where I have a further 170,000 followers, I also make short films and political ads, and you can find my YouTube channel here. In addition to this, I’m also working on a civic data hub project using primary data sources from US government data repositories. You can read about that here. I’m just embarking on a journey to deliver the same tools here.
It’s my intention to write two pieces each week to begin with. One on Friday and one on Sunday, then we’ll see how it goes as the pace picks up as we move closer to the next election. I’ll generally weigh in on policy issues and the state of the UK economy as a result of Brexit. In addition I’ll continue with my social advocacy work. Please rest assured I’ll be a reliable partner to those here in the UK who make up the resistance against this march towards autocracy and those in support of rejoining our European friends. That’s just so you know where I’m coming from.
I bring with me valuable lessons learned from my experience in the US and above all, I bring a new set of tools that I think will serve those of us determined to be on the right side of history in this existential threat to all we hold dear in this time of peril. I know some of my American friends will support this account and it gives my British friends who follow the Truth Matters account a place where they can get the same quality of independent reporting they enjoy on the other side of the Atlantic.
I look forward to starting to deliver the same quality commentary that has built trust over the past 6 years in the US. If you have any questions feel free to ask them in the comments. This will always be a FREE for life resource. If you become a paid subscriber, the revenue will simply be invested in research resources and subscriptions to news outlets to ensure I can fact check and source the required data to provide quality information and assessments to the readers here in the UK. Subscriptions are what helps keep reporting like this FREE for everyone.
Thank you for taking the time to read what I have to say. Who said Dad’s Army can’t play an important role in the fight for what’s right? Remember, as Corporal Jones said “They don't like it up 'em!”
Be assured I won’t be on Farage’s Christmas Card list.
